1: Quotation: You will be quoted on the editing of your manuscript. Payment for the editing process is normally paid for in full, upfront. Please make sure you understand the time the editor will need to complete their work and factor this into your publishing deadlines. Make sure that the editor has the final draft of your manuscript, we cannot be held responsible if we start the editing process from the wrong version. You must own and understand how to use Microsoft Word. (Or at least have a smart friend who does.)

2: Editing: Depending on the level of editing you need (from light through to heavy) the editor will work through your manuscript from beginning to end. All their changes will be tracked within the Word Doc for you to assess once they are done. Heavier edits will mean the editor might read through the manuscript multiple times, each time focussing on a different aspect of your writing. The more detailed the edit, the more the editor will charge per word. Please make sure that you understand the level of edit you are paying for.

3: Delivery: The completed manuscript is emailed back to the author. By default, we will deliver the version with all changes “accepted” within the Word document. We do this to avoid confusing the author as the version with all the changes visibly tracked can sometimes resemble a murder scene. If you would prefer to have both versions of the edited manuscript, please just let us know.

4: The Author’s Final Check: It is now the authors turn to work through the edited manuscript making sure they understand and are happy with all the changes made. Often our editors will leave comments and suggestions for the author where they think something might require clarification or potentially a rewrite. It is now up to the author to work through the document delivered by the editor. You are free to contact your editor via email with any questions you might have regarding their changes or suggestions, however, please note that the editors work is now done.

You will not be able to return the manuscript to the editor for further editing unless quoted.

  • – The author must understand how the track changes feature works within Microsoft Word.
  • – Our editors are human (for now) and will make mistakes. No editor will detect 100% of the issues with a single edit.
  • – The editing process is conducted almost exclusively over email. It is your responsibility to ensure you own a computer and that you know how it works. (You would be surprised…)

[av_timeline_item date=’Typeset your interior print and ebook files’ title=’STEP 2′ link=” linktarget=” linkelement=’all’ milestone_valign=’baseline’ milestone_color=” custom_milestone_color=” icon_image=’icon’ icon=’ue84e’ font=’entypo-fontello’ image=’https://myebook.online/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-template-builder/images/placeholder.jpg’ attachment=” attachment_size=” av_uid=’av-p58j9′]

Why is typesetting so important? Without the help of a talented typesetter your book’s pages will shout “amateur!”. A professionally typeset book helps your stand out from a sea of competition. With the barriers to self-publishing being lower than ever the smart author understands that being average is simply not acceptable. Certain genres need the talented-touch of a typesetter more than others, children’s books and financial journals are some examples.

How much does typesetting cost? There are three main factors influencing the quote for typesetting:

  1. – Typesetting is normally a per page charge, the longer your book, the steeper the invoice.
  2. – The intended destination of your book also affects the cost. If you are only looking for a paperback version versus if you would also like your book accepted in the print-on-demand section of the Amazon online shop, there are unique requirements for the book layout that your local print-shop doesn’t need.
  3. – The genre of your book is the final factor determining the price.

How does the typesetting process work?

1: The author delivers the raw manuscript in its final form. This would most commonly be delivered as a Word document. Your typesetter will work off this manuscript so please ensure it is the absolute final and edited version of your book.

2: The author gives the designer as much detail as possible as to what they would like to see in the typeset book. Ideally, every designer needs to see examples of book interiors that the author likes. This also includes the size of the book itself, click here for the recommend book trim sizes. Stuck? Go into your local bookstore and start snapping pictures…

3: The designer gets to work on the layout. This will involve styling elements such as: font type, size and colour. They will then style the front and back matter, updates to how the chapter headings are displayed, creating the table of contents to reflect accurate page numbering, adding headers and footers, etc. The designer then delivers a draft of the typeset manuscript to the author. This is normally delivered in a PDF format.

4: The author gives feedback (avoiding multiple emails) and sums up the updates they would like made. The number of updates we accept will naturally need to be reasonable. We want to avoid the scenario where the designer remains chained to the whims of an author for months. Fresh updates sent our way after 14 days will be treated as new work and quoted accordingly. So please ensure you send us comprehensive feedback on your typeset interior asap.

5: The author receives their fresh new book interior (in PDF format) together with a print-ready version of your cover (again in PDF format) to the local printer. The printer then quotes the author on the printing of the paperback. If you live in South Africa we can suggest preferred printers. Or if you are publishing with us (as you should be!) we will handle the print-on-demand process.

Typesetting for Print on Demand: Print on Demand is the literary equivalent of having your cake and eating it. Imagine your paperback being available to readers in every country around the world. Now imagine not paying a cent to have your book printed and shipped directly to their homes. Imagine a happy reader and a very happy author. The only investment an author would need to make would be the once-off design costs associated with updating your manuscript cover and interior to meet Amazon’s strict paperback-specifications.

What do you need to have ready before typesetting starts?

  1. – The final draft of your manuscript in Word format. This needs to contain all front and back matter that you would like to appear in the final paperback.
  2. – Interior examples that can be easily shared with the designer. These can be in the form of images from Google or even images snapped with your camera phone from the local bookstore.
  3. – Know your desired book size – click here for the recommended book trim sizes.

What normally happens after typesetting is completed?

  • – For local copies, the author approaches a preferred printer to have of the paperback printed and sold locally.
  • –  We publish your paperback on Amazon. The smart author also has the paperback published on Amazon to benefit from the popular print-on-demand model. This would mean the paperback is available worldwide at zero printing and shipping costs for the author.
  • – The fresh new interior of the book can now be converted into eBook formats destined for Amazon by an eBook Conversion.

What is an eBook? eBooks are books in electronic format that are normally read on devices such as iPads and Kindles. You are also able to read eBooks directly from your computer, all you need is the eReader software such as the packages listed here.

What is an eBook conversion? This is the process of converting your book from common word processing formats into file types that are compatible with today’s popular eReading devices.

Why convert to eBook? eBooks are the future of reading convenience. They create a platform that affords all authors the same advantage by removing the middle-man (or publisher in this case) and as a result enjoy more of the royalties from their tireless diligence in writing great books.

These are some of the fantastic benefits for authors who create eBooks:

  • Reach a growing global readership.
  • eBooks have long surpassed printed books in sales volume.
  • Once-off cost for eBook publishing, compared to the continuous printing costs for a paperback.
  • eBook publishing offers an unlimited return on your investment.
  • Royalties get paid directly to you, no more middlemen or gatekeepers!
  • High royalties of up to 70%, vs 15% for traditional print.

What is involved in an eBook conversion? We convert your manuscript from any source document (MS Word/PDF/Adobe/Text) into formats suitable for popular eBook readers. The output of the eBook conversion process includes Amazon’s Mobi or KF8 format as well as ePub2 and newer interactive ePub3 or ePDF formats.

What formats of eBook are there? Amazon’s proprietary format is the MOBI/ KF8 format which will only work on Amazon Kindle devices and is the only format sold through the Amazon Store. Due to Amazon’s dominance in eBook retail, you should definitely include a MOBI version of your eBook.

The ePUB2 file format is an industry default used almost everywhere else. ePUB3 (also known as “Enhanced eBook”) file formats will soon be in use. These formats will support video and audio clips which will be great for children’s eBooks. Currently, however, these are not widely supported with only Amazon and Apple devices capable of displaying their content. Older devices would therefore not be able to be targeted.

PDF/ePDF is often mistakenly assumed to be an eBook. Although most eReader devices can display PDF content a PDF document will lack many benefits of true eBook formats. For example, PDF documents cannot have font, margin-size, or background colour updated by the user. They cannot reflow to suit smaller or larger screen sizes and as a result, might give users a poor reading experience on some devices. PDF files will also not be accepted by most online retailers.

Fixed Layout eBooks: These are eBooks that are designed to resemble the print-ready layout as closely as possible.
They are only currently supported by Amazon and Apple devices and online stores. They do take more time and effort to design from our side and as mentioned we will target a certain device or store. Unfortunately, these formats are not be supported on older devices.

We understand that professional eBook publication can seem daunting and complex but we aim to put your mind at ease at every step of the digital publishing process. Rest assured that you have come to the right place. Hundreds of customers have already been helped by our free information and professional services.

[av_timeline_item date=’PUBLISH TO ALL DIGITAL PLATFORMS AND PRINT-ON-DEMAND’ title=’STEP 5′ link=” linktarget=” linkelement=’all’ milestone_valign=’baseline’ milestone_color=” custom_milestone_color=” icon_image=’icon’ icon=’ue8b1′ font=’entypo-fontello’ image=’https://myebook.online/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-template-builder/images/placeholder.jpg’ attachment=” attachment_size=” av_uid=’av-h4t1p’]
Here at MyeBook we publish your book, well, everywhere. Digital and print-on-demand versions of your book are sent to Amazon, Createspace,  iBooks, Kobo, Barnes & Nobel, pretty much every digital library in existance.

What is Print on Demand? Print on Demand (PoD) is the simplest way for authors to get their paperback books printed. In days gone by a printer would typically dictate to the author how many copies of their book needed to be printed. This was “economical” for the printer, however, expensive for the poor author.

Print on Demand, simply put, is where a printer prints only the exact amount that is “demanded” or ordered by a reader. A reader orders 10 books – only 10 books are printed. Yes, this does mean that the price paid for each paperback book might be higher than if you printed 1000 copies, however – can you afford to print 1000 copies? And what happens if you discover a mistake after printing?

How do future readers discover the authors paperback? Both Amazon and the Amazon-owned Createspace platforms are geared at making the process of printing and shipping your paperback book simpler. Authors who publish their paperback with Amazon have immediate access to millions of readers from almost every country around the world. Any reader who orders copies of your paperback pays for the printing and shipping of the book through the sleek Amazon-interface. This means the transaction is not only seamless, the author does not open their purse at any point. The printing and shipping of your paperback is fully-funded by the reader.

Yes, Amazon ships paperback orders to many African countries, including South Africa

What are the benefits of publishing my paperback through Amazon? Here are the reasons why publishing your paperback on the Amazon platform kicks ass:

  • – Very little risk to the author.
  • – Exposure to millions of readers.
  • – Worldwide distribution with just a few clicks.
  • – Aside from initial typesetting costs there are no further costs for printing and shipping. (The reader pays for this.)
  • – All transactions are handled through Amazon’s 1-click interface – You just get paid.
  • – Discover a mistake in your book? There is no longer a risk of wasted stock. An updated version of your book can simply be uploaded on Amazon platform.
  • – Earn up to 60% in royalties from the sale of your paperback.

How much will publishing my POD paperback on Amazon cost? There are typically 2 costs involved in the print on demand publishing process. These costs obviously do not include work like editing your words and any illustrations you might need.

  1. – The cost of getting your book cover and interior Amazon-ready. Amazon has strict requirements as to how your book cover and book interior needs to be formatted. The end result will be 2 separate PDF documents that are then uploaded on Amazon.
  2. – The actual cost of publishing the paperback on Amazon. This includes things like the finger work required to setup and populate your account with Amazon. It also includes the research we conduct to ensure you get the best place possible within the Amazon store.

How does the PoD publishing process work?

1: Have your PDF book files ready

The first step is always to make sure you have your book ready in the format that Amazon wants. The includes (1) a separate cover and (2) interior PDF documents that have been through a typesetting process to make sure they are compatible with Amazons requirements.

Need help? Let us know, we would love to get your book ready for Amazon!

2: Answer our online questionnaire

Next the author is emailed our paperback publishing questionnaire. These questions are answered fully online to give us the best idea of the price and position for your paperback. During the process we will also share our recommendations as to the book’s ideal price and position, so do not worry if you are not certain what to put here.

3: The publishing process

  1. – This is where your account with Amazon will be created. Please let us know if you already have an account with Amazon that we can use. (We will need the email address and password.)
  2. – We complete the Amazon tax interview on your behalf.
  3. – Research is conducted to determine the ideal keywords (7x) and categories (2x) for your book. This set will help new readers discover your book. Read more on the best practices for choosing your book metadata here.
  4. – The PDF files are loaded on Amazon. Amazon then conducts a vigorous assessment of the files to ensure that they are correctly formatted.
  5. – Once the files are approved, book pricing is set.
  6. – The paperback is then published live (It does take up to 72 hours for the book to appear live).

Timelines?

The longest process is having the cover and interior PDF files typeset for Amazon. Once these files are ready, the publishing process is usually completed within 14 days. This process will take longer where updates are required to the cover or interior files. Often Amazon only flags “errors” once we attempt to publish the PDF files on Amazon. A smart author would allow extra time for these unexpected updates.

What do I need to have ready before the publishing of my paperback starts?

The print-ready cover PDF:

  1. – This must contain both an ISBN number together with a barcode representation of the ISBN.
  2. – The spine size must take the page-count into consideration. The more pages, the wider the spine.
  3. – Images used must preferably be 300 Dpi or higher.
  4. – Size of the cover must exactly match Amazon trim specifications.

A print-ready PDF version of your interior:

  1. – Size of the interior must exactly match Amazon trim specifications.
  2. – The interior margin and bleed spacing must all be according to Amazon-spec.

Our online questionnaire will prompt you for the other bits and pieces we need to complete the publishing of your paperback on Amazon.

What normally happens after PoD Publishing is completed?

  1. Create and publish your eBook on Amazon.
  2. Have a great looking website designed for your author-brand.

[av_timeline_item date=’ESTABLISH YOUR AUTHOR PLATFORM AND MARKET YOUR BOOK’ title=’STEP 6′ link=” linktarget=” linkelement=’all’ milestone_valign=’baseline’ milestone_color=” custom_milestone_color=” icon_image=’icon’ icon=’ue8b1′ font=’entypo-fontello’ image=’https://myebook.online/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-template-builder/images/placeholder.jpg’ attachment=” attachment_size=” av_uid=’av-b36xx’]
It is vitally important to have a digital home for both yourself as an author and your books. We take the mostly overwhelming hassle out of building your author platform and helping you leverage it to market your books.

Author Websites: We help you create a dedicated and focused book landing or “squeeze” page that will turn interested visitors into paying readers. The goal of an author website is to create a highly-focused sales-funnel by creating a one-page website (or landing page). This funnel will have a single call to action or goal; that customers purchase your book. This is a stark contrast to most websites that have many distracting links and goals.

Customers will find your landing page primarily due to marketing efforts. This means you will need to drive traffic to the landing page through the clever use of email signatures, business cards, Facebook and other social profiles. Once they have found and visit your landing page online, we will help guide them through a focused sales funnel with well written and carefully placed marketing copy and sales links.

The power of a blog: Blogging is the act of capturing your thoughts and feelings on a particular topic, online. It is a powerful marketing tool that will cost you nothing but time. Nothing brings readers to your new website faster than if you freely share helpful information through regular blogging.  A regularly updated blog will lead to your website ranking higher in the Google search result and a flood of new visitors to your page. You should ideally be blogging content similar to the genre of your book. So if your book revolves around flowering flora then your regular blog posts should include topics like gardening, landscaping etc. Read more on blogging here.

Designed in the dynamic WordPress system: Nothing is worse than having a website designed that is out of date one year later. Even worse is having a website design that only your website guy understands. This means costly updates and if your web-guy happens to leave then you are back to square one with an expensive bit of online real estate that no one will know how to operate.

WordPress is the world’s largest Content Management System (CMS). As it is so widely used you will find a plethora of free information and tutorials available online. It is also guaranteed to always remain up to date due to its wide user base. The system is a breeze to understand and update. You will love it!

Link directly to your social networks: We are able to link your busy social media channels directly to your new website. Things like Facebook author pages, Twitter feeds etc can all be linked without a hassle!

Entice new readers with free chapters of your book: Nothing will warm readers to you more than making the first few chapters of your book free to read. Using our author templates we can easily share a selected amount of text from your book with your website visitor.
