What inspired you to begin writing this book?
This book was born out of a deep desire to make a meaningful impact in the area of financial literacy. Over the years, through my work with individuals, entrepreneurs, and organizations, I have encountered recurring financial struggles, challenges that often stem not from a lack of potential, but from a lack of knowledge and guidance.
Witnessing these patterns inspired me to create a resource that is both practical and relatable, one that empowers people to take control of their finances with confidence. Writing this book became a way to extend my reach, share what I have learnt, and help others build a healthier relationship with money.
How long did it take you to complete your book’s final draft?
Within a year.
What were some of the biggest challenges you faced in writing your book, and how did you overcome them?
I was fortunate to have a mentor who walked the journey with me. However, one of the challenges we faced was aligning our availability. I had to adapt to her schedule, which often meant working late into the night to ensure I was prepared and able to deliver when she was available. While it was demanding, it taught me discipline, resilience, and the value of making the most of every opportunity for growth.
How did you approach the editing and proofreading stages of your book?
I outsourced editing and had friends and family help proofread.
What surprised you most about the writing or publishing process for this book?
The cost and the process. It is not as easy as I thought it will be.
What made you decide to opt for the self-publishing route for your book?
I chose the self-publishing route because I had seen a few people around me successfully go through the process, which showed me that it was not only possible but also empowering. Their journey gave me the confidence to take ownership of my own publishing process. Self-publishing offered me creative control, flexibility, and the ability to move at my own pace, allowing me to bring my vision to life exactly as I imagined it.
Could you share a key learning experience from the self-publishing process?
One key learning experience from the self-publishing process was understanding the importance of planning and project management. Unlike traditional publishing, where many aspects are handled by a publisher, self-publishing requires you to oversee every stage, from editing and design to formatting and marketing. It taught me to be organized, to ask the right questions, and to trust professionals where needed. Most importantly, I learnt that publishing a book is not just about writing, it is about creating a product that reflects your message with excellence.
What resources or tools did you find most valuable during your self-publishing journey?
I was fortunate to have mentors who walked the journey with me, always available for guidance, idea-sharing, and clarity when I needed it most. I particularly appreciated the online services, which were both efficient and engaging. The digital tools and platforms used created a seamless experience that made me feel connected to the team on a personal level, even from a distance.
Have you written any other books?
This is my first book.
How are you planning to connect with and find new readers?
To connect with new readers, I plan to leverage my existing networks and use speaking engagements as opportunities to share and promote the book. I will also actively market it on social media platforms to reach a broader audience. Additionally, I will be encouraging those who have read the book to share their reviews and testimonials. Word of mouth is a powerful tool in building trust and expanding reach.
